Like the look of that? Apply online and the lender confirms your actual rate.

This calculator gives an indicative estimate only. It is not an offer, a quote, or a guarantee of finance. Your actual interest rate, fees and repayments depend on the lender, the purpose of the loan, the loan term and your individual circumstances, and are subject to credit approval and responsible lending checks. The starting rate shown is an example and rates vary by lender and credit profile. Talk to us for a personalised quote.

A worked question

What does a $5,000 loan cost per month?

At an example rate of 12% p.a. over 5 years (60 monthly payments), a $5,000 loan works out to about $111.23 a month, excluding fees. Your actual rate is set by the lender.

Set the amount to $5,000 above, enter a rate you have been quoted and choose monthly repayments to see your own estimate. Calculator results are estimates only: the lender confirms your rate, fees and repayments before you sign. For a fuller breakdown, estimate your repayments on the calculator page.

Lenders and insurers we work with

What we arrange

Vehicle loans, personal loans and warranty cover.

Finance for the vehicle you are buying, from a dealer or a private seller, arranged with a lender and explained in plain English before you sign. Tell us what you have in mind and we talk you through what a lender will need.

Good to know

Why FME

Finance should feel clear, not confusing.

Three values guide everything we do: plain-English options, the heavy lifting done for you, from finding the vehicle to the paperwork, and someone firmly on your side with the lender.

Simplicity and transparency

No jargon. We lay out your options in plain English, from the interest rate and term to what a mechanical warranty protects, so you decide with the full picture.

We handle the heavy lifting

From finding the right vehicle and arranging a fair trade-in valuation to structuring the finance and doing the paperwork, we look after the whole journey so you can enjoy the drive.

Fierce customer advocacy

We take the time to understand your story as well as your application, and give the lender the honest context behind it. Your long-term financial health comes first.

How it works

From application to funding, in four steps.

Step 1

Apply online, or call if you prefer

Start your application online, whenever suits you. It asks about the loan you need, your income and your outgoings, and we check the details line up before anything goes to a lender. Prefer to talk? Call 0800 995 014 and we can take it over the phone.

Step 2

A quick initial decision

Your application goes to a lender and we aim to get you an initial decision quickly, often within an hour during business hours. We explain what is approved, any conditions attached, and what the lender needs from you next.

Step 3

Verification

The lender confirms who you are and what you earn. Usually that means your driver licence, proof of address and proof of income. If a lender asks for anything more, we tell you exactly what is needed and why.

Step 4

Funding within 24 to 48 hours

Once the lender gives final approval and the loan documents are signed, funding usually follows within 24 to 48 hours. Still choosing a vehicle? Approvals typically remain valid for 30 days.

Car finance in New Zealand

What is the best way to finance a car in New Zealand?

There is no single best way to finance a car in New Zealand. The useful comparison is the total cost over the term, a repayment you can comfortably afford, and the conditions attached to the loan.

The usual routes are finance arranged at the car yard, a vehicle loan arranged before you buy, a personal loan, or cash. Knowing your approved amount before you negotiate keeps the conversation on the vehicle. See vehicle loans for how it works, or car loans for dealer and private sales.

Whichever route you choose, ask before you sign:

  • What will I repay in total, including interest and every fee?
  • Is the loan secured over the vehicle, and what does that mean if I fall behind?
  • Can I repay early, and what does that cost?

Side by side

Choosing a finance company

How do I check a finance company is legitimate?

Check that it is registered, belongs to a dispute resolution scheme, puts every cost in writing and does not pressure you. You can check all four before you share any details.

  1. 01Search the Financial Service Providers Register. Finance Made Easy is a trading name of TrueNorth Financial Services Limited, registered as FSP1011270.
  2. 02Check for dispute resolution scheme membership. We belong to Financial Services Complaints Ltd (FSCL), membership 9517, a free and independent service if something goes wrong.
  3. 03Ask for the costs in writing: the interest rate, fees, repayment amount and total repayable, before you sign anything.
  4. 04Expect no pressure. You should have time to read the loan documents and ask questions, and nobody can promise approval before a lender has looked at your situation.

Who we can help

What are the easiest loans to get in New Zealand?

No loan is automatically easy to get. Every lender in New Zealand has to check that a loan is suitable and affordable before approving it, so the most straightforward applications are simply the best prepared ones.

In practice that means steady income from work you can show, a current driver licence, proof of address, and an honest picture of your outgoings and existing debts. The same applies to personal loans.

Finance Made Easy works with people who are in work. If your main income is a benefit, or you are not working at the moment, we cannot help with finance, and we would rather say so up front. If you are working, apply online, or call 0800 995 014 if you would rather talk.
